My Obedience and God's Faithfulness

Last week, I was reading the story of Abraham and Sarah and the legacy that they each left behind.  Their story made me think about my own life and whether or not I am living a life today that testifies of God's promises tomorrow. Do my daily choices reflect what God has said He would do?

I never really understood why it was so important to Abraham to buy the Cave of Machpelah at full price, so he could bury Sarah there. God had promised the land to Abraham's descendants, but Abraham did not yet possess it.  By refusing to take the cave as a gift, he was demonstrating faith in God’s covenant promise.  He was declaring:

"It’s not just borrowed space or a temporary setup—it’s a down payment on God’s covenant oath.  It’s a declaration: This land belongs to the God who keeps His word." (Fusion Global Commentary)

In  this past Sunday's sermon, my pastor said something similar about our worship. He said,

"Worship is a declaration of what will be done because God is faithful."

I think God is telling me to stop and remember what He has promised.  I need to make my actions reflect my confidence in the faithfulness of God.  For Abraham, that meant purchasing a cave in the land that God had promised him.  For me, that means worshiping Him knowing that no matter what my current circumstances may look like.  God will come through for me with exactly what I need.  He is faithful and He can be trusted.

As we get ready to celebrate a day of Thanksgiving, I am focusing on being thankful for the faithfulness of God to do what is best for me - always.

God's covenant doesn't rely on luck or chance.  God's covenant asks for my obedience and promises His faithfulness.  I am not always obedient, but He is still faithful - and He always will be.
